To maximise accommodation space and ensure pets can be cared for during busy periods, facilities may use split bookings for overnight stays. This means a pet’s reservation is divided across different rooms or enclosures when one space isn’t continuously available.

Split Bookings Explained
|
How it works:
|
Benefits:
|
Example:
A cattery has two rooms with existing bookings in December. A customer wishes to reserve from 12–24 December, but both rooms are occupied during that period. This request can still be accommodated by splitting the booking across the two rooms, ensuring the full stay is covered.

Adding a Split-Boarding Booking
To add a split booking click the arrow adjacent the button top right of the booking scheduler.
Then select Add Split-Boarding to open the booking form.
Customer – Select the customer for whom you are making the booking.
- You can also create a new customer by clicking the blue plus icon.
- If the booking is made from the customer’s profile, this field will automatically populate with that customer.
Location – When using the Multi-Site plan, select the location where the service will be held.
Checkin / Checkout - Allows you to select the arrival and departure times using the time selector. By default, the times follow your system’s booking settings, but they can be adjusted if needed.
AM/PM - If enabled in your system’s Booking Settings, the option to select specific checkin and checkout times will be replaced by an AM/PM choice.
Ignore Validation - Enables you to ignore any opening hours, blocked dates and minimum night requirements set up in your system. You would do this if you have a specific booking you wish to override these rules for. This functionality is not available in the customer portal.
Unconfirmed checkbox - If selected the bookings will be entered into the system as unconfirmed. By default bookings added from the admin system are marked as confirmed. This functionality is not available in the customer portal.
Note: If a Deposit Requirement Setup has the "Set Unconfirmed" option enabled, then the checkbox will be ticked by default when adding a booking. |
Area – Select the Area to be used for the booking, such as a Kennel for dogs or a Cattery for cats.
Pens - This button will open the booking scheduler in edit mode, allowing you to select the required dates.
Dates selected for the 12-24 December:
When a booking is accepted, it will show in green. If there’s an issue with the dates you’ve chosen, the blocks will highlight in red to let you know.
| NOTE: Pets stay in their original pen until the end of the move day. When splitting a booking, keep both the previous night and move day in the original pen. Only assign the new pen starting from the next night. | |
Once the dates are selected click the button bottom right to accept and return to the booking form.
The dates and allocated accommodation will now show beneath the Edit Pens button.
Pets – Select the pet(s) that will be attending the service.
- You can also create a new pet by clicking the
button.
Private - If you are utilising 'multiple booking' pens, which allow pets from different bookings and families to be housed in the same pen, then you can use the 'Private' option. The private option makes a shared pen into a private pen. For normal pens, the private checkbox has no effect.
- You can setup different pricing for private pens if required.
You can add multiple pens e.g. Kennel and Cattery if you are making a booking that contains both a Dog and Cat, or if the owner has 2 animals needing to be housed in separate pens.
To add additional Pens, to the booking, click the button of the panel.
Additional Fields
Notes - Use this field to add any additional information or booking details that may be required.
Personal Items - Use this field to add any additional information about personal items that the owner/pet may bring along for the stay.
Calculate Distance – This feature displays the distance between the pet owner’s residence and your business. It provides a quick reference for assessing the distance involved in any taxi services are selected.
Extras
Extras can be added while creating a booking, by clicking the button, or later by selecting the blue Add Extra button in the Extras tab once the booking has been created.
This will allow you to choose extras to apply from your pre-set list. It will automatically add the price to the booking based on the rules for that particular extra and how many times it has been selected to apply. Extras are setup in settings > customization > extras & extra types.
Additional Extras can be added by clicking the button.
Booking Details
A summary of the booking details, including pricing, invoice line items and if a deposit is required appears on the right side of the screen when using a desktop device, or below the booking form on mobile devices. This section also displays the customer’s most recent previous booking and all pets they own for reference.
Extras - Shows which Extras have been chosen, along with their costs, to be added to the booking.
Invoice Total - Confirms the total cost of the booking.
There is also an option to apply tokens to the booking before proceeding. This feature is not generally used for Boarding bookings but is common in Daycare bookings where prepaid packages have been purchased.
Once the booking form has been completed and the details reviewed, click to proceed.
You will then be directed to the Booking Overview page, under the Invoices / Quotes tab, where you can create an invoice or quote, and apply any necessary adjustments depending on your business procedures.
Once the booking is completed, it will display on the scheduler as jigsaw pieces, indicating a split booking.
| Split-Boarding bookings may be generated from existing bookings where an extension or relocation is required. For further information on the process, refer to the article - |
