A credit offset can be used to arbitrarily reduce the owing amount of an invoice. You might use this where you have an old invoice that you wish to write off and not record revenue against it.
Warning: A credit offset will create NEW credit for the customer. If the customer already has a credit amount you are wanting to use, you must do a credit allocation instead.
Performing A Credit Offset
To perform a credit offset, find an invoice with an amount owing and click the blue arrow then choose Credit Offset.
You will then be presented with the Credit Offset form.
- Invoice – this will be selected automatically and will show the invoice number and amount owing.
-
Amount – the amount you want to offset.
- This will be automatically set to the amount owing, or the deposit requirement amount.
- If you set this amount greater than the amount owing, the customer will have credit available after the offset.
- Description – the credit note line item description.
- Notes – any additional notes to include with the credit note.
Once the offset details have been entered, just press the green Save button and the credit offset will be performed and the invoice updated.
